Family Support Specialist - KYRC (Bilingual Korean/English Req.)

$5,017 to $7,959

Summary

The Family Support Specialist provides direct services to people with developmental disabilities and their families through the Koch-Young Resource Center (KYRC). The Family Support Specialist is responsible for supplementing the work of the Client and Family Services Division, the coordination of the Peer Support Program, education and training sessions for families, technical assistance to the Center’s support groups, and the overall coordination of parent volunteers for the various support programs of the KYRC. Position is also involved in the outreach, public awareness and community relations activity of the Center.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent is required to have a working knowledge of the service delivery system for people with developmental disabilities and their families. Must be skilled in working within a Family-Professional Partnership and information and referral. The incumbent will also be able to work effectively with groups and facilitate communications, knowledgeable in developing network of community resources, and have the ability to work with a variety of people including those of different cultures and lifestyles. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and must be competent with computer software applications, included but not limited to, MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.

Education & Experience

A Bachelor’s degree in social, behavioral or life science, and four years professional-related experience, four years working with families with children that have special needs and adult individuals with developmental disabilities.

Or

A Master’s degree in the above fields of study with at least two years of professional-related experience.

An individual who is a parent of a child with a disability or a professional with experience in the area of Family Support is highly preferred.

A valid California driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and adequate transportation to fulfill position responsibilities is required.

Bilingual Korean/English required.
