Navigating the Special Needs System: Service Coordination and Advocacy Training Series

This four-week course provides families with the necessary skills and knowledge about the regional center system to make them informed partners and advocates for their family member with special needs.

March 7, 2019 ~ Session 1: Provides an overview of the regional center system as a whole, including details about the Lanterman Act and what it means for clients and families, as well as where the funding for the system comes from and how it is spent.

March 14, 2019 ~ Session 2: Defines the roles and responsibilities of clients, families and service coordinators, and gives you tools and tips to help build a successful partnership. An overview of the services and supports available through the Koch-Young Resource Center is also provided.

March 21, 2019 ~ Session 3: Offers participants insight into the Center’s mission, vision and values with particular attention devoted to the core values and customer values that guide and inform the work that is done at Lanterman. 

March 28, 2019 ~ Session 4: Shares suggestions and strategies to help families become the best possible advocate for their family member with special needs.

Due to security reasons, access to the building requires that all visitors carry a picture ID.

Parking: Available in the parking structure behind Lanterman on Berendo Avenue. Parking tickets will not be validated. Parking fees are $6.50 prior to 10 a.m. entry, otherwise the rate is $2 for every 15 minutes with a maximum rate of $16 for all day parking. There is metered parking on the street. Watch street signs. Lanterman is 2 blocks west of the Metro Red Line Wilshire/Vermont Station.
