My Child is Turning 18…Now What?

There are many options for young adults transitioning from high school to adulthood, but how can we know what is best? And how do families help young adults prepare? This presentation will focus on options for life planning, including employment preparation, higher education, living independently, and community involvement.

It will address transition for students at all ends of the spectrum and explain the role of the various agencies involved - School District, Department of Rehabilitation, and Regional Center. According to IDEA, transition planning starts at 16; but professionals agree that families should start thinking about this well before that time. Don’t wait! Come and learn what you need to do to help your child prepare for the future.

Handouts will be provided to all attendees, including a Transition Checklist and Resource Information.
