California law and regulation requires that regional centers display on their Web sites information about the dollar value of services they purchase for clients. These data (called "purchase of service" or "POS" data) must be reported separately by clients' ethnic/racial group, langauge and diagnosis.
Enhancing Quality of Life for Individuals Requiring Pervasive Medical and Allied Health Care Support
Many years ago, our industry transitioned from a medical model to a participatory/inclusionary model. Unfortunately, the majority of those individuals who are significantly challenged with physical, cognitive and health care issues have been left behind. Many children and adults with I/DD: nourished by tube, suctioned frequently, repositioned on schedule, impacted by debilitating contractures, hospitalized as a result of uncontrolled seizures and prone to acute respiratory infections, have yet to experience a meaningful quality of life. In this informative and inspiring “how to” presentation, Tom Pomeranz details the challenge in enhancing quality of life for these individuals by providing a wealth of suggestions that will promote both their happiness and health. Specifically, Tom will share through demonstration those skills necessary for staff to interact in sensitive ways while maximizing opportunities for their participation in their daily routines. Additionally, he will discuss the vast range of materials, equipment and technology that can be used to allow individuals with limited mobility and diminished competencies to control their environment and maximize their self-determination.
