Exceptional Children's Foundatio, a member of the Coalition of Service Providers, is hosting a disability services town hall meeting on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Exceptional Children’s Foundation ECF Kayne Eras Center located at 5350 Machado Road, Culver City, CA 90230.
Essentially, the Coalition is encouraging the Legislature to support the Governor's plan to reverse three years of cuts to the community-based organizations that directly serve people with developmental disabilities. They have referenced an analysis by UCLA that supports their position that nonprofit service providers are unable to replace lost public dollars and can't reduce more without placing the health and safety of their clients at risk. Also, qualified staff are leaving organizations and being replaced by unqualified (or less qualified) staff. Facility maintenance and vehicle replacement are being deferred throughout the system.
They will be urging grass roots action to assist them in urging the Legislature to resist any further cuts to the system, restore the 4.25% to Department of Developmental Services funded programs, consider the combination of private insurance and federal revenue enhancements, and administrative system efficiencies to meet the $200 million savings targeted by the recent trigger.
