Public Star Party on February 13 at the Observatory to Trial Wheelchair-Accessible Telescope Mount
Below please find an invitation from a young girl who invented a telescope mount so people who use wheelchairs can observe the night sky at the Observatory right from their chairs.
My name is Therese and I’m currently a junior at Pasadena High School working on my Girl Scout Gold Award Project. For this project, I designed and created a wheelchair-accessible telescope mount for the Outreach Program of the Los Angeles Astronomical Society (LAAS).
Now that my telescope mount is complete, I am inviting wheelchair users to come to the Public Star Party at the Griffith Observatory on February 13, 2016 from 2 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. (www.griffithobservatory.org/programs/publictelescopes.html).
Please help me by forwarding my invitation to the residents of Los Angeles so they can experience observing the night sky safely without getting out of their wheelchairs.
By coming to this event, they can also help me get feedback on what adjustments to make on my telescope mount to improve its design for people who use wheelchairs.
Please note that this event may be canceled if it is raining or cloudy.
