Training and Development Opportunities
Lanterman Regional Center is committed to enhancing the knowledge and skills of our clients, families, staff, service providers and board members.
As part of our goal of promoting lifelong learning and education, Lanterman provides information on training opportunities that focus on developmental disabilities and related topics and offers a number of in-house training opportunities. Please be aware that all internal training and events are subject to rescheduling or cancellation without notice.
We also encourage participation in external training and events that may be of benefit to Lanterman community members.
- Please note that if you are a family member or a client in the Lanterman Regional Center service area and are interested in attending a training opportunity outside the Regional Center, contact your service coordinator at least 2 weeks in advance for review and approval. The training is a service and therefore must be supporting an existing or new goal in the IPP.

Registering for a Learning Center Account
If you are a new user to Lanterman’s Learning Center, you will need to “Register” to create an account and login.
Behavioral Training
Lanterman’s Orientation to Behavioral Services is a one-time training available online that was developed to provide parents and caregivers of individuals supported by the regional center with information on the types of behavioral services that are provided through Lanterman.
Parents must complete the Behavioral Services Orientation prior to registering for online Behavior Management Workshops. Completion of Behavior Management Workshops is encouraged for those receiving these services through their insurance company and is mandatory for families requesting in-home behavioral services through the Regional Center.

Online
You may take the 30-minute Orientation to Behavioral Services online at your own pace. The orientation will cover the steps to receiving behavior services through Lanterman and the options available.
Register
To register and take the Orientation to Behavioral Services online go to the Lanterman Parent Learning Center and follow the instructions.
You will need to know your child’s UCI Number (#) to complete the registration process and take the training online. If you need assistance or you do not know your child’s UCI #, contact your Service Coordinator or email training@lanterman.org.

Client Training
Sexual Health
The Sexual Health Series follows California’s Healthy Youth Act (CHYA) guidelines, providing thorough, age-appropriate, and inclusive sexuality education for caregivers and individuals with any diagnosis. Each course is designed for specific audiences and includes a mandatory orientation session where caregivers consent for their minor children to participate. All classes are 2hr weekly sessions presented in a 7-week series format via virtual participation.

Disaster Preparedness Training
Disaster Preparedness Training is available online for all individuals served by the Regional Center. You must have a computer with audio (speakers) capability. Click Here to access the online training. (You will be asked to register for an account).

Topics to be covered:
- emergency preparedness & accessing community resources
- establishing a personal support network
- completing an emergency planning worksheet
- collecting supplies
- maintaining an emergency kit
Additionally, individuals who live in Independent Living (ILS) or Supportive Living (SLS) situations that are in a high fire area as determined by Cal Fire and the California Public Utilities Commission, will be eligible to receive a Disaster Go Kit. Contact the Emergency Coordinator at cayala@lanterman.org to see if you are eligible to receive a kit.
Family Training
Lanterman offers a wide variety of training opportunities to help parents and families find and access the information and opportunities they need to become more effective advocates for their son or daughter.
- We have on-demand trainings available through our Parent Learning Center.
- We also offer instructor-led trainings of which all upcoming trainings can be viewed in our event calendar.
Service Provider Training
Lanterman Regional Center provides training opportunities that focus on developmental disabilities and related topics and are conducted or sponsored by Lanterman Regional Center for service providers in the Lanterman community.
In-Services
All provider training offered by Lanterman is approved for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for Community Care Licensing Adult Residential Facilities Certification renewal only.
Residential Service Provider Orientation (RSPO)
This course is designed to provide an overview of Title 17 requirements for residential vendorization for persons who wish to become vendored as a residential service provider and for administrators of vendored homes. (Title 17 Section 56003)
Community Learning Opportunities
In some cases Lanterman service providers are required to obtain training from other organizations outside of Lanterman.
