Our Center has recently been targeted by several phishing attempts. These deceptive emails and messages may appear to be from our team, but their purpose is to steal personal information or compromise your security.
How to recognize a phishing attempt:
-
- An unsolicited email or message asking for sensitive information (e.g., passwords, financial details).
-
- An email message containing suspicious links or attachments. Never click on a link or open an attachment unless you are sure of the source.
-
- A message that seems urgent or creates a sense of panic, trying to rush you into making decisions.
What to do if you receive a suspicious message:
-
- Do not respond or click on any links.
-
- Do not open any attachments or download files.
-
- Contact the sender via phone to confirm the message is legitimate and inform them of the attempt.
If you’ve already shared any sensitive information, immediately change your passwords. If you have already shared any financial information, contact your bank or credit card company immediately. A fraud alert placed with the major credit bureaus (such as Equifax, Experian, etc.) may be appropriate as well.
The security of your personal information is always our priority, and we are taking measures to ensure our systems are secure and prevent further attacks. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Srbui Ovsepyan, Associate Executive Director at (213) 252-4943 or sovsepyan@lanterman.org. (For questions and concerns in Spanish, please contact Carmen Luna, Associate Director, at (213) 252-4809 o CLuna@lanterman.org)
