An important message from the City of Los Angeles NotifyLA System follows:
Dangerous heat for the LA Region is expected from Tuesday, March 17 at 10 a.m. until Friday, March 20 at 8 p.m. Find a nearby cooling center here: Emergency.LACity.gov/Heat.
During heat events, it is important to take proactive actions to prevent heat exposure. As temperatures rise, Angelenos are urged to plan and prepare to avoid heat exhaustion in your communities and for yourself.
Angelenos can keep cool by resting in a shady location or a building with air conditioning and drinking plenty of water. If you do not live in an air-conditioned building, you may take refuge from the heat at a public library, recreation facility, senior center or other public air-conditioned building near you. You may call 311 to identify the cooling facilities closest to you, or visit the Cool Spots LA App. Drink plenty of fluids, stay indoors or in the shade, and check on relatives and neighbors, especially if they have pre-existing health conditions. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
Dedicated augmented cooling centers will open starting Tuesday, March 17 until Friday, March 20 at from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.:
- Pecan Recreation Center (145 S. Pecan St., Los Angeles, CA 90033)
- Algin Sutton Recreation Center (8800 S. Hoover St., Los Angeles, CA 90044)
- Canoga Park Senior Center (7326 Jordan Ave., Canoga Park, CA 91303)

More than 100 City of Los Angeles cooling locations, including Recreation & Parks facilities and City Public Library branches, are available for rest and hydration during all regular hours of operation: https://emergency.lacity.gov/heat
Take extra precautions if you work, exercise, or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. See images below for an explanation of signs and symptoms of heat illness. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments and to stay hydrated. Employers must provide access to sufficient water. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. If you suspect heat stroke, this is an emergency! Call 911. Non-emergency information can be found by calling 311.
