This message from the Department of Developmental Services provides an update on the federal budget. The 43-day shutdown of the federal government has ended. A new federal budget has been signed into law.
The budget funds multiple agencies and programs through September 30, 2026, and all other departments until January 30, 2026. It funds the Department of Agriculture (this includes funding for CalFresh and WIC food assistance programs), the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs, military construction projects, and the operations of Congress through September 30, 2026. The rest of the federal government (including Medi-Cal) is funded through the end of January 2026.
The federal budget also provides pay for workers who were paused or working without pay these past six weeks, rehires federal government employees who were laid off during the shutdown, and prevents further layoffs of federal employees through the end of January 2026.
We will continue to provide relevant updates when possible.
