Who is eligible for the Self-Determination program?
For the first three years, the number of participants in the Self- Determination Program was capped at 2,500 individuals throughout the state. FDLRC had 75 individuals or families enrolled in the program for the first three years. As of June 2021, the Self-Determination Program became available to all eligible persons served by the regional center and their families on a voluntary basis with no limit on the number of participants.
Enrollment Process
Interested participants should inform their service coordinators of their interest in the Self-Determination Program for more information. In order to enroll in the Self-Determination Program, eligible participants will have to attend a mandatory orientation that is offered by the State Council of Developmental Disabilities (SCDD). Upon completion of the orientation, the participant will receive a Certificate of Completion, that will be provided to their service coordinator to initiate the Person-Centered Planning process.
For more information on how to enroll in an orientation or get started, please speak to your service coordinator today.
SCDD and DDS SDP Mandatory Orientation
The State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) has partnered up with the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) to develop a statewide mandatory orientation. These orientations are held live virtually, where you can attend and ask questions. Lanterman does not host these orientations.
View the Statewide Self-Determination Orientation flyer (English) for more info and to register for the SDP Mandatory Orientation through SCDD.
