Social Recreation Services

What's On This Page

Social and recreational activities play an important role in the lives of all people. Social recreation can be linked to physical, social and emotional well-being that translates into a healthy balanced lifestyle. These activities enable the development of social skills and personal relationships that foster a sense of community and provide enjoyment to daily life. Social and recreational services and supports creates opportunities for individuals and families to have integrated life experiences and promote community-oriented lifestyles.

Social and recreational opportunities also offer a chance to socialize and meet people with similar interests. Along with physical and social benefits, social and recreational activities can lead to an increase in confidence, improved creativity and self-esteem.

Examples of social and recreational activities include sports, hobbies, leisure, education, clubs, fitness and culture and the arts. These programs provide activities which are designed to teach specific skills – but also enhance socialization skills, develop friendships and provide learning and entertainment opportunities.
