Life After High School: Putting Employment First for All Individuals on the Autism Spectrum

The Foothill Autism Alliance, Inc. Family Resource Meeting being held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 will be focusing on Life After High School: Putting Employment First for All Individuals on the Autism Spectrum with guest speaker Olivia Raynor, Ph.D. and will also feature a panel of teenagers and young adults with ASD who will share their dreams and aspirations.

One of the  most important transitions of all is the move from high school to adult life. There are many progressive changes happening in California in the rehabilitation, education and regional center systems that prioritize "real work for real pay' as the preferred outcome for youth and adults with autism. Find out what these changes mean for the preparation of youth and adults with ASD to achieve meaningful work. Dr. Raynor will also discuss some of the options available and pro-active strategies parents can take.

Olivia Raynor, Ph.D., is the Director of the Tarjan Center, a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (DD), and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the Semel Institute, at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). Her career spans over 40 years of experience in training and technical assistance, evaluation, and public policy development, covering topics such as inclusive postsecondary education, integrated competitive employment, the arts, and systemic change. Dr. Raynor was the Director  (2011-2017) of the California Employment Consortium for Youth with DD (CECY), an alliance of 25 local and state agencies, associations, organizations, families, and self-advocates. CECY worked to make changes in policy and to build an accountable system that addressed the employment gap for individuals with DD.  Dr. Raynor previously served as President of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities and currently serves on the Board. She is a Governor appointed member of the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities.

Unfortunately, childcare is not available at Resource Meetings. Out of respect for the speaker and fellow attendees, please do not bring any young children.
