The Bright Life Workshop Series for Teens and Transitioning Adults on the Autism Spectrum 12 to 25

9am–11am

Special Workshops

This workshop is pitched perfectly for adolescents between the ages 12-25 years old (and their parents) who are concerned, or even anxious, about adult life and are willing and ready to take action now. You will be given access to The Bright Life Inventory and will be guided on how to use it. In this hands-on and practical workshop, parents and adolescents will be empowered with fundamental mindsets to promote healthy interdependence and will be given a simple tool to create a “path forward” directing where resources should go. After the workshop, you will keep this tool and will have it as a tangible and invaluable resource that can serve as your guide as often and for as long you need it.

Session 1: Order of Operations
Saturday, June 5 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Participants will understand the mindsets necessary to promote healthy interdependence and will be introduced to The Bright Life Inventory tool. Participants will be assigned homework to develop awareness of strengths, limitations, interests, and preferences.

Session 2: Learning/Continuing Education
Saturday, June 12 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Participants will learn the skill sets necessary for learning after high school and will be encouraged to think about a path that fits interests, preferences, and learning profiles. Participants will be assigned homework related to Learning/Education skills. 

Session 3: Working
Saturday, June 19 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Participants will learn the skill sets necessary for vocational and career placement. Participants will be assigned homework related to working skills. 

Session 4: Living
Saturday, June 26 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Participants will learn about the skill sets necessary for daily living. Participants will be assigned homework related to Daily Living Skills. Directions on how to use The Bright Life Inventory tool after the workshop will be discussed.

Cost:
Flat Fee of $365.00 for the workshop series.
The workshop series is vendored by Lanterman Regional Center. Talk to your Service Coordinator. It may be available to clients of other Regional Centers as well. Inquire with your Regional Center Service Coordinator.

This session will review important soft skills crucial to success in the workplace. Areas of review and practice include workplace etiquette and diplomacy, time and self-management, asking questions, making small talk, providing feedback, and note-taking.

Saturday June 12, 2021 at 2-3:30 p.m. PST

This workshop will review best practices with interview skills, self-advocacy, and how to speak positively about yourself in an interview.

Session Six- Employment Resource Fair
Speaker: Employment Vendors
Saturday June 19, 2021 at 2-3:30 p.m. PST

This interactive session will feature Employment Vendors who will discuss their programs, and answer all questions you may have.

About the Speaker/Facilitator
Kristin Kucia is an educator, a writer, and a curriculum designer with over 20 years of experience teaching and coaching people with differentiated needs. She is the Co-Leader of the Talent/HR Coalition at the BRIC Foundation, an organization that forges career opportunities for women and underrepresented populations in the entertainment industry. She creates and manages internship and mentorship partnerships for diverse artists with the goal of fostering social responsibility and encouraging DEI initiatives in the workplace. Kristin is the mother of a young man with autism, and she is passionate about teaching, coaching, and empowering young adults on the spectrum towards employment opportunities. She published the memoir, "I am my son's first sightword: growing a child with autism" in 2014 and is currently working on her second book. Kristin sits on the Board of Directors at Foothill Autism Alliance.

The Bright Life Workshop Series for Teens and Transitioning Adults on the Autism Spectrum 12 to 25

9am–11am

Special Workshops

This workshop is pitched perfectly for adolescents between the ages 12-25 years old (and their parents) who are concerned, or even anxious, about adult life and are willing and ready to take action now. You will be given access to The Bright Life Inventory and will be guided on how to use it. In this hands-on and practical workshop, parents and adolescents will be empowered with fundamental mindsets to promote healthy interdependence and will be given a simple tool to create a “path forward” directing where resources should go. After the workshop, you will keep this tool and will have it as a tangible and invaluable resource that can serve as your guide as often and for as long you need it.

Session 1: Order of Operations
Saturday, June 5 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Participants will understand the mindsets necessary to promote healthy interdependence and will be introduced to The Bright Life Inventory tool. Participants will be assigned homework to develop awareness of strengths, limitations, interests, and preferences.

Session 2: Learning/Continuing Education
Saturday, June 12 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Participants will learn the skill sets necessary for learning after high school and will be encouraged to think about a path that fits interests, preferences, and learning profiles. Participants will be assigned homework related to Learning/Education skills. 

Session 3: Working
Saturday, June 19 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Participants will learn the skill sets necessary for vocational and career placement. Participants will be assigned homework related to working skills. 

Session 4: Living
Saturday, June 26 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Participants will learn about the skill sets necessary for daily living. Participants will be assigned homework related to Daily Living Skills. Directions on how to use The Bright Life Inventory tool after the workshop will be discussed.

Cost:
Flat Fee of $365.00 for the workshop series.

About the Speaker/Facilitator
Kristin Kucia is an educator, a writer, and a curriculum designer with over 20 years of experience teaching and coaching people with differentiated needs. She is the Co-Leader of the Talent/HR Coalition at the BRIC Foundation, an organization that forges career opportunities for women and underrepresented populations in the entertainment industry. She creates and manages internship and mentorship partnerships for diverse artists with the goal of fostering social responsibility and encouraging DEI initiatives in the workplace. Kristin is the mother of a young man with autism, and she is passionate about teaching, coaching, and empowering young adults on the spectrum towards employment opportunities. She published the memoir, "I am my son's first sightword: growing a child with autism" in 2014 and is currently working on her second book. Kristin sits on the Board of Directors at Foothill Autism Alliance.

About the Speaker/Facilitator
Kristin Kucia is an educator, a writer, and a curriculum designer with over 20 years of experience teaching and coaching people with differentiated needs. She is the Co-Leader of the Talent/HR Coalition at the BRIC Foundation, an organization that forges career opportunities for women and underrepresented populations in the entertainment industry. She creates and manages internship and mentorship partnerships for diverse artists with the goal of fostering social responsibility and encouraging DEI initiatives in the workplace. Kristin is the mother of a young man with autism, and she is passionate about teaching, coaching, and empowering young adults on the spectrum towards employment opportunities. She published the memoir, "I am my son's first sightword: growing a child with autism" in 2014 and is currently working on her second book. Kristin sits on the Board of Directors at Foothill Autism Alliance.

California Department of Developmental Services presents Developing a Community of Practice.

The California Department of Developmental Services, in partnership with Support Development Associates, is offering a series of virtual trainings on person-centered thinking and practices.

These trainings will be held via webinar, will help assure that key stakeholders, including individuals and their families, providers, and regional center staff are knowledgeable of, and understand the principles and application of person-centered thinking, practices and service planning.

Developing a Community of Practice
This training will provide participants with information on how to apply the concepts of person-centered practices. Participants will learn how to envision, structure, and plan for implementing lasting person-centered practices in partnership with individuals served, families, providers, and service systems.

The Bright Life Workshop Series for Teens and Transitioning Adults on the Autism Spectrum 12 to 25

9am–11am

Special Workshops

This workshop is pitched perfectly for adolescents between the ages 12-25 years old (and their parents) who are concerned, or even anxious, about adult life and are willing and ready to take action now. You will be given access to The Bright Life Inventory and will be guided on how to use it. In this hands-on and practical workshop, parents and adolescents will be empowered with fundamental mindsets to promote healthy interdependence and will be given a simple tool to create a “path forward” directing where resources should go. After the workshop, you will keep this tool and will have it as a tangible and invaluable resource that can serve as your guide as often and for as long you need it.

Session 1: Order of Operations
Saturday, June 5 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Participants will understand the mindsets necessary to promote healthy interdependence and will be introduced to The Bright Life Inventory tool. Participants will be assigned homework to develop awareness of strengths, limitations, interests, and preferences.

Session 2: Learning/Continuing Education
Saturday, June 12 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Participants will learn the skill sets necessary for learning after high school and will be encouraged to think about a path that fits interests, preferences, and learning profiles. Participants will be assigned homework related to Learning/Education skills. 

Session 3: Working
Saturday, June 19 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Participants will learn the skill sets necessary for vocational and career placement. Participants will be assigned homework related to working skills. 

Session 4: Living
Saturday, June 26 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Participants will learn about the skill sets necessary for daily living. Participants will be assigned homework related to Daily Living Skills. Directions on how to use The Bright Life Inventory tool after the workshop will be discussed.

About the Speaker/Facilitator
Gwen Palafox, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist who has been actively changing the lives of individuals with disabilities for over 20 years. Currently, she is laser-focused on promoting the happiness and wellbeing of teens and adults with disabilities.
