The State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) presents: A Festival of Learning and Ideas: Student and Young Adult Experience with Friends and Classmates on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Please join SCDD as they learn from Kavita and Kishan Sreedhar about Pragnya in San Jose, California. Pragnya serves neurodiverse individuals, those with intellectual and developmental differences (ID/DD) by creating acculturation and integration experiences alongside their neurotypical peers, our Allies. Trained in the unique Ally Support Program, developed by the co-founder Kishan, the Ally Program incorporates person centered thinking and wisdom skills to help allies better understand neurodiverse community. Allies reach out and support people as to integrate into mainstream society. Allies are part of the natural circle of support, empowering individuals to lead lives of dignity and respect. Later, they visit Nithila Poongovan and Meghana Repaka of Young Inquisitive Minds of Santa Clara. Young Inquisitive Minds is a student-run non-profit geared towards fostering scientific exploration and curiosity in children and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through hands-on STEM activities such as building robots and conducting science experiments, differently abled students are given the opportunity to immerse themselves in extensive STEM learning, inspiring many to pursue STEM careers in the future. Foothill Autism Alliance presents "Regional Center Services through the Self-Determination Program" with guest speaker Carmine Manicone, Associate Director at Lanterman Regional Center, on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 7 p.m. via Zoom.
There will be discussion on how Regional Centers will offer and provide services as a client/family option through the New Self-Determination Program scheduled to start June 2021. You will learn how services are provided in the Self-Determination Program versus the traditional Service Coordination Model.
- What are the differences and similarities between the two programs?
- How will a Service Coordinator work with a client/family if they are in the Self-Determination Program?
- How will you know if a client/family will benefit from the Self-Determination Program?
- What is the enrollment process of a new client/family into the Self-Determination Program?
About the Guest Speaker
Carmine Manicone is the Associate Director of Lanterman Regional Center. Mr. Manicone began his career in 1994 as a Program Director with LA Youth Program and later transitioned to Westside in 2002. During his tenure with WRC, Carmine held various positions, including Service Coordinator, Quality Assurance Specialist, Program Manager in Client Services, Assistant Director of Client Services to Executive Director.
Mr. Manicone has been an advocate through the inception and implementation of the Self-Determination Program. He has been dedicated to providing support and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, along with developing working partnerships with community organizations. He is dedicated to ensuring individuals with developmental disabilities achieve the greatest possible enrichment and fulfillment in their lives.

Lanterman's Koch-Young Resource Center presents Infant Massage, a three-session parent and me series designed for children ages birth to crawling.
Parents will learn the benefits of infant massage, including:
- Helps to decrease stress for you and your baby.
- Helps relieve discomfort from constipation, gas and colic.
- Helps normalize muscle tone and improve blood circulation.
- Stimulates brain development and improves sensory awareness.
- Promotes bonding and attachment.

Friendships are the foundation of relationships. Close personal friends will stick up for each other in front of others, answer questions honestly (in a kind way), help each other when there is a need, and enjoy spending time together. Friends are an outlet that can prevent feeling lonely and depressed.This workshop series will focus on skills and strategies to forming friendships and developing relationships. Following each session for our adults on the spectrum is a session for their parents and caregivers, who will learn how to practice and support the process of building friendships and romantic relationships.
