Accessibility Statement
Frank D. Lanterman Regional Center is committed to making our website, lanterman.org, accessible to all visitors, including people with disabilities. Our mission is to serve children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families, and we strive to ensure that our digital presence is equally welcoming and usable.
Accessibility Features
Every page of our website includes an accessibility widget, available through the blue Accessibility Icon located at the bottom right corner of the browser window. This tool allows visitors to adjust their browsing experience to meet a wide range of needs and preferences.
Features include:
Text adjustments: Increase or decrease text size, change fonts, and adjust line height and text alignment for improved readability.
Color and contrast controls: Modify contrast, apply grayscale, or adjust colors to enhance visibility.
Image controls: Hide images if they create distraction or barriers.
Animation controls: Pause motion and animations to support visitors who experience discomfort or distraction from movement.
Navigation assistance: Highlight links for clarity and enable an outline on the active focus point to support keyboard-only navigation.
Screen reader support: Access a built-in screen reader that makes on-page content available to people who use auditory browsing.
Together, these features address common barriers such as text that may be too small, insufficient color contrast, visual clutter, distracting movement, and navigation challenges.
Ongoing Efforts
In addition to the accessibility widget, we are actively:
Testing pages for usability with keyboard-only navigation.
Reviewing the site’s reading order and logical flow for visitors using screen readers.
Adding or improving alt text for images to ensure meaningful descriptions.
We recognize that some pages may not yet reflect these efforts in full, and that users may encounter barriers we did not anticipate or that the widget cannot resolve. We are committed to ongoing improvement.
