Finding Your Community at Lanterman — At Lanterman Regional Center, no family has to navigate the journey alone. Whether you’re looking for a one-on-one connection or the reassurance of a group setting, Lanterman offers meaningful ways to find support, share experiences and build community.
The Peer Support Partner Program has been matching families one-to-one with trained volunteer peers for nearly 30 years. The peer partner is someone who can support a family with guidance and provide information related to developmental disabilities. They have the lived experience of raising a child with a developmental disability and truly understand the joys and challenges that come with it.
Peer Support Partners are specially trained to serve as a link between families and the Regional Center, and to work in partnership with other families to provide information and advocacy.
The partners speak multiple languages, represent a wide range of disability experiences, and are ready to help families, especially those new to the regional center system, understand their rights, navigate resources, and become stronger advocates for their loved ones.
Support Groups offer another powerful avenue for connection. Whether in person or virtually, these groups bring people together to share information, resources and emotional support. The Koch-Young Resource Center currently coordinates 15 active support groups, including groups for non-English speaking families, ensuring there’s a welcoming space for everyone in our community.
