Parents will learn tips and techniques to build language skills and the program will feature, environmental sounds; letters, numbers, colors; animals; the city; food; and active bodies. The first session in the series starts on April 25, 2017.

Lanterman's Koch-Young Resource Center presents Sign, Say and Play: A Baby Signs Program. Gives babies a way to “talk” with their parent - before they can talk. For parents and children birth to 3 years old to attend together, families will learn useful signs for mealtime, bedtime, bathtime, getting dressed, pets and the park. In addition, parents will learn simple ways to support their baby’s intellectual development. The first session in a six-session series starts on May 4, 2017.

Lanterman presents Music and Movement, which brings together families in sharing songs, instrument play, rhythm chants and movement activities in a relaxed, playful, non-performance-oriented setting. Music is learned through developmentally appropriate activities that support and respect the unique learning styles of very young children from 2 to 4 years of age. Infants, toddlers and preschoolers participate at their own levels in family-style classes of mixed ages.

May 6 ~ Open Sky for Autism

10am–2pm

Being held on Saturday, May 6, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Open Sky for Autism assists families living with autism and other developmental disabilities in gaining the confidence, comfort and enjoyment of air travel.

Open to the public with limited seating, Open Sky for Autism allows for vital acclimation, repetition and supervision during a commercial airport and passenger flight simulation.  

The program features:

  • Airport Arrival
  • Ticketing, Check-in and Baggage Check
  • TSA Security Screening
  • Departure Lounge and Boarding
  • In-Flight Simulation
  • Deboarding

Open Sky for Autism's organizational partners provide expert, hands-on assistance at each of the stations ensuring a safe, educational experience.

There is $25 refundable deposit per family. The deposit will be immediately reimbursed upon checking into the event (see explanation on the registration page).

Sexuality - It’s a Fact of Life: A Providers’ Guidance

This presentation will give providers guidance as to how to handle behaviors of a sexual nature when issues arise such as inappropriate discussions of a sexual nature and inappropriate touching of client/staff or client to client. Other areas that will be covered are how to redirect clients to safer, respectful behavior when it comes to sexuality. This is the May 2017 in-service.
