Behavior Management Workshop - Spanish

After completing the Behavior Services Orientation, the next level of service is the Behavior Management Workshops. These workshops are based on the principles of Positive Behavior Support. Positive Behavioral Support is a set of research-based strategies used to decrease problem behavior and increase quality of life by teaching new skills and making changes in the child’s environment.

Lanterman's Koch-Young Resource Center presents Toddler Talk, a six-session parent/child speech program designed for children 2 to 3 1/2 years of age with Smile Pediatric Therapy and Diagnostics. Parents will learn tips and techniques to build language skills and the program will feature, environmental sounds; letters, numbers, colors; animals; the city; food; and active bodies. The first session in the series starts on June 23, 2016.

Playgroups for Children 2 to 5 Years of Age - Summer Wednesday Afternoon Session

3pm–4pm

Quality play time with parents can lead to improvements in skills such as communication, engagement, sensory awareness, cognitive ability and creativity. Each session of the parent-child playgroups will run for six weeks and will provide caregivers with play strategies and tips for engaging children with special needs to make playtime more fun and meaningful as well as exposure to a variety of types of play and ideas for low-budget activities that can be done at home. Parents and children can practice their play skills in a supportive setting. Sessions are conducted in English and Spanish concurrently for various age ranges between birth and 5 years of age and at various days and times to accommodate the needs of the community.

Mark your calendars for a fun family event celebrating all abilities being held on Saturday, August 13, 2016 starting at 2 p.m. and hosted by our neighborhood council and FACT (Family, Adult and Child Therapies).

The event will be highlighting work by local artists with developmental disabilities, feature entertainment performed by individuals with developmental disabilities and food/barista booths. Lanterman's Koch-Young Resource Center will be hosting an informational booth.

The community event will take place on the corner of Berendo and 6th street at the Founders Church (no religious affiliation).
